SISLER JOHNSTON SAYS BUILDERS CARE
IMPROVES OUR COMMUNITY’S QUALITY OF LIFE

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – Like most homeowners, Suzie Kivett was thrilled to have her Murray Hill home renovated. For the home improvement professionals that worked together with Builders Care to refurbish Kivett’s home, the completion of this project also provided an incredible sense of satisfaction.

“It is so heartwarming for me to be a part of the good work of Builders Care,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “When you are involved in a project like this, you see how truly blessed it is to give to someone in need.”

Kivett, 57, has multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair-bound. Along with new paint, carpeting and furnishings, Kivett received a handicapped accessible bathroom, kitchen and a landscaped yard from Builders Care, a non-profit community outreach program of the Northeast Florida Builders Association. Before the renovations, she had been unable to take a regular bath or shower for 10 years because her bathroom wasn’t designed to accommodate her wheelchair.

Now Kivett’s home has an accessible bathroom as well as a light, bright kitchen with new cabinets and countertops, a custom bed and lift with new sheets, comforters and pillows, and beautiful blue upholstery and rattan furnishings with coordinating accessories in the living area. Outside the home is a new wheelchair-accessible reflection garden with a new fountain and flowering plants.

“Beauty is therapeutic and it is an uplifting experience to be able to surround yourself and others with lovely things,” Sisler Johnston said.

“Judith Sisler Johnston has effectively taken this ministry to heart,” said Builders Care Executive Director Bill Wilson. “She has helped our organization in so many ways and is there ready to help every time the bell rings.”

In addition to the design team at Sisler Johnston, D.R. Horton, Home Depot and hundreds of volunteers worked together with Builders Care on the Kivett home renovation.
