SISLER JOHNSTON COMPLETES REDESIGN OF
|
Judith Sisler Johnston, interior designer and ASID Allied member, provided the original design when the community opened in 1997 and was recently hired for a cosmetic redesign. Sisler Johnston says the original Architect, John Powers of Powers Design Group, created an exceptional architectural concept design. However after eight years it was time to replace the interior décor because of normal commercial use. “This owner (The Douglas Allred Company) realizes what it takes to be competitive in today’s marketplace with so many new offerings,” Sisler Johnston said. “ Cape House is an established property with exceptional architectural design, mature landscaping and a prime location. We gave the interior design a fresh appearance and a new theme. By making the property look like new, we are able to satisfy what consumers are seeking in today’s marketplace.”
Sisler Johnston created a “living room” environment to add warmth and a residential ambiance to the clubhouse by combining a textured sofa with bun feet in oatmeal upholstery with paired chairs, a reading desk and accent tables in fruitwood with a distressed tobacco finish. The furnishings feature rattan accents and carved wood details and the table desk creates an open and inviting presentation. Window dressings and accent pillows add a burst of color while lamps and artwork reinforce the relaxed Island theme. The multi-purpose room in the clubhouse has a built-in fireplace with an Italian granite surround hearth in giallo anticio. Barstools with custom upholstery fabric and leather and rattan accents accompany the same granite countertop in the refreshment kitchen. Several of the furnishings in this room are from the Bali Collection, which combines upholstery with caning and rattan elements. For example, the sofa has wood and wicker arms and features a small scale leopard upholstery pattern. The game table is joined by carved wood chairs with leather seats and backs. There is a pleasing balance of color accents and tapestry pattern interplay in this room. The company’s leasing offices are also warm and inviting. By continuing the relaxed Island theme incorporated into furnishings, fabrics and colors, Sisler Johnston created a coordinated look that functions as a business space for the management company as well. To maintain continuity in color and theme, Sisler Johnston developed a complementary conceptual design for the spacious two bedroom model that incorporates both elements. Each apartment home contains designer finishes including ceramic tile foyer, crown moulding, painted accent walls, raised panel cabinetry and nine foot ceiling heights. The dining room is large enough to entertain a party of six. Sisler Johnston selected a solid fruitwood table top with an iron base and coordinating wood finish chairs with a woven rope back and boxed fabric seat cushions. The table has been set in a china pattern with a tropical motif in festive red pepper and sage green accents. The dining room window overlooks the courtyard, an unusual feature in an apartment home which affords natural light flooding into the foyer and eating areas. Recessed lighting instead of hanging fixtures afford more flexibility in furniture placement. The living room overlooks the patio and lake and is furnished with a fully upholstered and skirted textured sofa in sage and celery tones. The sofa is accompanied by a decorative coffee table fabricated in wood, iron and shell and paired with rattan and inlaid iron guest chairs. A hand-painted accent table displays an Island landscape. “With the addition of drapery panels and valences over existing apartment blinds, we demonstrate to the apartment home dweller how window dressings can add custom features to make their home personal and inviting,” Sisler Johnston said. The kitchen is open to the rest of the entertainment areas and includes a built-in breakfast bar. This floor plan has two spacious bedrooms and two baths. The master suite furnishings are mahogany in wood tones with reptile patterened inlays in the king-sized sleigh bed. Its custom bed skirt has been modified to allow the design of the bed’s platform to show. The second bedroom is furnished with a queen-sized bed in a honey maple wood color. The bedrooms are reversed from each other in colorization and tone, creating contrast while maintaining design continuity with the two distinct spaces that relate to each other.
