SISLER JOHNSTON INTERIOR DESIGN REDESIGNS
COLEMAN CENTER AT FLEET LANDING

ATLANTIC BEACH, Florida - Sisler Johnston Interior Design served as part of the professional team that helped bring new energy and life to a community's activity center. The Jacksonville-based firm recently completed the redesign of the Coleman Center at Fleet Landing.

"Fleet Landing is continually updating and enhancing its luxurious amenities so residents will enjoy the same type of lifestyle offered at a country club community," said Judith Sisler Johnston, president, Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. "The team also recognizes that interior design is an important therapeutic component of the quality care offered at Fleet Landing."

For more than 15 years, the Coleman Center has served as the hub of daily activity at Fleet Landing. Its three-story atrium lounge provides a great social environment for residents and visitors alike. The Coleman Center houses administrative offices as well as many resident amenities, including a post office, bank, auditorium, café and library on the ground floor and a full service dining room on the second level. The building overlooks a boardwalk, lush landscaped gardens and a lake with a fountain.

To enhance the Coleman Center's design and complement the atrium's grand scale, Sisler Johnston selected palm leaf-patterned carpeting and oversized furnishings with upholstered fabrics in camel, aquarium, blue-green and shell color tones. The Bergere chairs, which have patterned wood outside and back details, feature a fleur-de-lis fabric pattern while the comfortable settees have subtle stripe fabric with bold pillow accents. Since the atrium lounge is a popular destination for social gatherings, Sisler Johnston added oval cocktail tables as well as drum-shaped accent tables with tray tops. The library lounge was refurbished with a computer desk, sofa, wing chairs and reading lamps. Rust, agate green and doeskin fabrics add texture and make the library a warm and inviting retreat.

The lending library also received new desk and lounge chair furnishings. The three adjacent lobby areas have new seating areas and a hand-painted bombe chest with accent mirror. There is new framed artwork throughout featuring Mediterranean coastal and boating scenes.

The upstairs lobby overlooks the lake and has four new seating groups for residents to enjoy before or after dining. In the formal dining room, Sisler Johnston replaced the large buffet serving table with a hand forged iron base table featuring a custom walnut wood plank inlaid top. The entry sideboards were updated with granite top walnut and leather serving chests. There are plans to add custom window dressings in the formal dining room. Fleet Landing also offers residents the convenience of take-out dining adjacent to the lounge. The upstairs concierge station was updated with custom millwork that provides styling and appeal. Future projects include new spa-like bathrooms for assisted living residences, new prototype furnishings and finishes for the skilled nursing facility and the addition of accent colors, new furnishings and framed art to the independent living apartment homes' lobbies and corridors.

"Adult lifestyle and continuing care communities are moving away from commercial and institutional-looking furnishings," Sisler Johnston said. "The growing trend is creating a more comfortable atmosphere. Fleet Landing has always been a leader in offering the finest residential setting." Established in 1990, Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach is home to more than 500 adults age 62 and older who desire an independent lifestyle with lively community activities and the security of guaranteed continuing care if needed. The independent, accredited, not-for-profit life-care community is open to all who are age and income qualified. For more information, call (904) 246-9900 or visit www.fleetlanding.com.
