FERNANDINA BEACH, Florida – The work of Sisler Johnston Interior Design accentuates ICI Homes’ Preakness V model at Amelia National Golf and Country Club in Fernandina Beach. The Preakness V is the newest version of one of ICI’s best selling designs.
“ICI Homes is constantly improving their floor plans and features,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president, Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “They take their best selling plans and continue to find ways to make them even better. The Preakness V is a must see for anyone looking for a home that has all of the custom features.”
The Preakness V has an entry foyer with stone flooring that opens onto a formal living room and dining room. The dining room walls and accent wall in the living room are painted Venetian red, providing a dramatic backdrop for the citrine and summer savory upholstery. Carved wood furniture inspired by Italian Mediterranean craftsmanship has inlaid marble and iron details. The cast stone console and dining table add textural interest to the setting.
Sisler Johnston selected a soothing warm neutral for the walls and applied the same shade to the ceiling. Painting both the same color draws the eye to the contrasting crown moulding and millwork trim. Silky draperies, custom designed and blended with tapestry fabrics, tassel fringes and braided cording, flow from the top of the 12’ ceiling.
“I like to emphasize a room’s volume by draping fabrics around the windows from the tallest height possible,” Sisler Johnston said. “It visually elongates the window and adds height to the room.”
The stone flooring extends from the foyer into the kitchen and breakfast room which has a faux matchstick rattan patterned wallcovering over a red background. The kitchen has double stacked upper cabinets with seeded glass fronts to display dinnerware, serving pieces and collectables. Double cabinet doors cover a pantry designed with pull out tray shelves for convenience. A food preparation island includes eating space for counter stools. All of the cabinetry is caramel maple with a dark chocolate glaze.
“Anyone looking for new ideas in cabinet design should see this kitchen,” Sisler Johnston said. “ICI’s Design Manager Sherrie Williams worked with Woodsman Kitchen and Floors to produce an updated custom design.”
In the adjoining family room, small pencil-thin rattan inlays return in a wood tone furniture collection. A matched loveseat pair is upholstered in beige with a deeper beige animal print weave. Unique details highlight the accent furnishings. The console table is hammered metal with nail head stud trim and the cocktail table is studded with a map relief distressed into the brown finish. Fabrics for the lounge chair, pillow and window trims add a tropical touch to the room.
The Preakness V has a split bedroom plan. The children’s bedrooms are adjacent to the family room. The boy’s bedroom is designed with a fire engine play station, fabric and art while the young girl’s room highlights zoo animals. Both rooms feature bold colors on the walls and contrasting wood furnishings.

Situated away from the children’s bedrooms, the inviting master bedroom blends contemporary classic style and tropical pattern accents. Sisler Johnston selected a honey maple leather and wood low poster king bed topped with a Cajun red suede cloth duvet and added splashes of red in the long fringe on the window draping. The master bath has a millwork tower and recessed mirrors with scrolled, mirror mounted lighting. Cajun red is carried into the bath via a patterned wallcovering. Large, sandy-colored tile complement the banded diamond border wall tile in the master bath shower.
The guest bedroom is located in the same area of the home and has been designed for the golf enthusiast as a fully equipped home office. An argyle patterned wallcovering is used as a wainscot and the chair rail border highlights historic golf scenes. A table desk and leather chairs complement the custom millwork bookcases.
The second floor has two bonus rooms. One is designed as a home theatre with modern electronics displayed in custom cherry cabinetry. Reclining theatre-style chairs include drink holders. A life-sized statue board of John Wayne stands next to a red popcorn machine and table top miniature billiards.
“This bonus space reflects the home’s hip style roof shape,” Sisler Johnston said. “I painted the room from floor to ceiling in the same neutral color to unify the opposing angles and dormers.”
The home theatre room has its own bath. Sisler Johnston patterned the tub wall tiles in an interesting diagonal picture frame design. The upstairs also has a guest master suite with private bath. A king sized sleigh bed is covered in a nubby sage silk with shams in a red background contemporary tropical fabric.
The Preakness V model home is located at Amelia National in Fernandina Beach. The gated community has a Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, tennis, fitness and clubhouse facilities, and resort-style swimming pool.
