ORMOND BEACH, Florida – The Kargar Construction model at Plantation Bay, an award-winner in the Volusia County Parade of Homes, features the work of Sisler Johnston Interior Design.
“This home is an exquisite blend of detailed architecture and custom furnishings that enhances its rich proportions,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president, Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “The very latest trends in stone, cabinetry, lighting design, fine furniture, and color enhancements come together to create a storybook setting.”
The exterior design highlights classic Tuscan Mediterranean properties including turret shaped enhancements in shades of Tuscan gold, bronze and rust. The home offers expansive ceiling heights, extensive interior architectural detailing and nearly 5,000 square feet of living space.
Natural noche travertine pavers on the driveway and walkways lead to massive front entry doors made of heavy, distressed wood, iron and glass. Inside, Old World marketplace stone flooring in a random-sized pattern flows from the foyer to the living room, dining room and gathering room. Sisler Johnston chose an interior color palette of tangerine, dill and sunflower against a backdrop of antique gold.
The walls in the living room, dining room and foyer are hand textured and faux painted to resemble Venetian interior walls. Columns gilded at the capitals draw attention to their glittering heights. A tangerine glaze covers the ceiling coffers in the living room and foyer as well as a detailed wall of niches in the formal dining room.
“We provided the builder with drawings of interior architectural niches to add interest to the room and then painted them in the tangerine accent for a bold Mediterranean splash of color,” Sisler Johnston said.
The living room contains a bar which wraps around to the family room, serving both the formal and informal entertainment areas of the home. Two lighted niche walls have rhomboid shaped mosaic tile walls. One is an art niche and the other has custom millwork for bar glass storage.
The living room has a carved, gilded fireplace surround in a Turkish coffee wood tone with large recessed art niches. Sisler Johnston chose to tile the walls in a large
diamond-patterned tile. A bronze iron wall sculpture is mounted over the fireplace. Vivid color countryside floral hand-textured art adds interest.
Hand-knotted Persian carpets define the seating areas. A carved wood and upholstered sofa settee is surrounded by a bay of mitered glass overlooking the pool and outdoor living area of the home, which is located on a sparkling lake and manicured golf course. The living room furniture is upholstered in tangerine jacquard with contrasting stripe brocade covers. Pillows are ornately fringed, corded and tasseled with imported silks. Shimmering gold silk window dressings featuring diamond-patterned cross stitching cascade from ceiling to floor.
The dining room seats eight at a banquet-sized table with two carved wood wing- styled host chairs. The console is of fine carved mahogany with additional gilding to accentuate the carvings. Two estate-sized candle sconces, scaled to complement the generous room proportions, provide a romantic candlelight setting.
The kitchen, gathering room and breakfast room are merged into one luxurious family entertainment space. Customized cherry cabinetry, Italian granite countertops and a distressed buttermilk island with furniture legs, moulding and layered accents highlight this area. Commercial stainless appliances provide the gourmet cook with a professional setting to prepare the finest meals. The custom cabinetry extends from the kitchen into the gathering room where high technology meets custom millwork in the form of a magnificent home entertainment system wall.
The gathering room walls are painted tangerine. Sisler Johnston chose a black background sunflower tapestry fabric for the window dressings for contrast against the
calfskin suede sectional sofa that wraps the space. A signature collection of tables from Lanes’s National Geographic series feature Castilian iron embellishments. Disappearing sliding doors reveal the gorgeous outdoor pool and patio with grill kitchen and leisure seating.
A wide corridor featuring stone accents leads to an open millwork “brain center,” designed as the children’s homework area. A private bedroom suite is nearby. Sisler Johnston chose soft celery wall paint to complement the pastel toile fabric containing images of Peter Rabbit and his friend for the young girl’s room. The furniture is distressed, antique white with European detailing. The private bath features a glass tile mosaic tub surround.
A boy’s bedroom and bath is located in another private corridor. Designed for the Daytona 500 fan, two walls are painted robust red. One supports a loft bed and the other has a denim, child-sized lounge chair with an accent table made from discarded tires. Checker flags adorn the window valances and the bedding fabrics. Framed art reinforces the racing excitement.
In another quadrant of the home, a large laundry room is adjacent to the garage. The mud room has a distressed, black hall tree for jackets and backpacks.
The master retreat is a haven for rest. The hand-carved rosewood and leather sleigh bed overlooks the windows to the pool, lake and golf course. Sisler Johnston chose dill tapestries, silk and suede bedcovers with tangerine accents to exude luxury in this serene retreat. The bed is recessed into an arched niche painted tangerine to match the ceiling tray. The room has a large reading area with upholstered lounge chairs
There’s also a breakfast bar with rubbed buttermilk cabinets and granite countertops.
The master bath is as large as most bedrooms with a peninsular tub as its centerpiece and a walk-through double shower. Sisler Johnston wrapped tub walls and shower bay arches in mosaic tile for a dramatic background. The flooring is large stone squares bordered with rows of tiny mosaics. The walls are faux bronze and the vanities have ceiling height mirrors and bronze ornate lighting.
The home has a large office completely clad in gorgeous millwork from its wainscot to its wide plank flooring and decorative bookcases. Sisler Johnston chose a Venetian style mahogany desk with gilded carvings and a tufted leather lounge chair and ottoman to define a reading space.
Stairs with stone rises and stained tread lead from the gathering room to an upstairs bonus room with a wrap around porch. The pathway is designed with elliptical windows clad in silks with glittering beads. Designed as a game room for billiards, movies or pub table card playing, the bonus room has a full-sized wet bar. A full bath includes a glamorous furniture sink and custom framed mirror.
