JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Sisler Johnston Interior Design
received two prestigious national silver awards from the National
Association of Homebuilders at the Best of 50+ Housing Awards. The
interior design firm along with developer/builder Pulte Homes/Del
Webb, received the best amenity center award for Summerland
Hall at Sweetwater. Also, Sisler Johnston Interior Design
along with ICI Homes was honored for best model home at an
active adult community for The Emerald at Plantation Bay.
“We
are honored to receive these esteemed national awards recognizing our interior
design environments at 50+ communities,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president
of Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID allied member. “Active
adult homebuyers want to live in a luxurious setting with amenities and a lifestyle
that meets their needs and aspirations.”
Sweetwater by Del Webb in Jacksonville offers an active lifestyle for age
55 and over. Sisler Johnston’s assignment was to design a private
club/resort ambiance for the Summerland Hall amenity center.
Sisler Johnston selected interior colors and furniture styles to complement the
lovely Mediterranean-inspired architecture at Sweetwater designed by Basham & Lucas
Design Group. She also designed the interior details, including stone work,
drywall niches, fireplace walls and corridor arches. Sisler Johnston selected
a sage, cranberry and umber color palette to provide contrast with the natural
golden stone floors and granite counters. The design process included
special attention to many elements in the 22,000-square-foot facility, including
lighting, millwork, hardware, fixtures, flooring, paints, wall elevations and
tile patterning.
To add interest and illumination in the main corridors, Sisler Johnston created
an arched opening system accentuated by vibrant pesto accent paint and decorative
antique bronze wall sconces with alabaster glass globes. Applied millwork
beams and bold color accents on the ceilings add Mediterranean rustic appeal.

For
the grand hall, where the ceiling soars to three-story height,
Sisler Johnston selected 24-inch Italian chiseled-edge walnut
limestone flooring and a grand oversized chandelier to provide
dramatic illumination to the space. Two large hand-knotted
wool carpets from India define mirror image seating areas.
To
complement the room’s octagon shape, Sisler Johnston
used angled opposing sofas that back to an estate-sized console
and are centered under the expansive chandelier. The
sofas are upholstered in imported cherry-colored brushed
velvet. The
oversized Bergere lounge chairs are covered in a
woven tapestry fabric featuring black, pesto and cherry
contrasts
against a gold field.
A large cocktail table has an onyx granite top and sits on
a leafy patterned iron base. The grand hall walls have
a hand-applied Venetian plaster in shades of ochre covered
with a topaz glaze.
The media
room features a large plasma television that has been mounted
over the two-sided fireplace wall with custom cabinetry and recessed arched
niches. The large
sofa, lounge chairs and ottomans are black cherry leather. The
wing chairs have turned wood bases and colorful woven tapestry
fabric upholstery.
Sharing the
two-sided fireplace is a billiards room with Spanish colonial-style
billiards tables, sculpted iron lighting and numerous game tables. A
tournament-quality dartboard is available for resident enjoyment.
The multi-purpose
room serves as a banquet facility with a dance floor or a
seminar room for resident educational programs. Sisler Johnston designed
the space with ochre-colored draperies, crimson valances, and pesto and gold
patterned plush carpeting against a crimson background. The center’s
arts and crafts area has built-in glass front curio cabinets to display art
projects.

The
recreation center has a state-of-the art fitness facility
with an Olympic-sized indoor pool and locker rooms for men
and women. Sisler Johnston used green Italian
glass tile accents in the locker room baths for pattern interest
and color impact. She
selected 24-inch scored tile pattern flooring and a faux-stone
medallion as an art element. The window dressings throughout
the amenities center are especially interesting because of
their unique shapes, sizes, colors and patterns.
Sisler
Johnston Interior Design also received the award for best model home
merchandizing at an active adult community for The Emerald Showcase Home by ICI
Homes at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach. The home showcases the latest
in energy efficient green design. The home is also built with the refinements
of luxury living.
Featuring 20-foot ceilings and a 24-foot expanse of slide-away
doors, this spacious, light-filled home captures green upgrades
in its systems building components, including Low E3 windows,
a 15 Seer air conditioning system and a solar water heater. Sustainable construction items include spray foam insulation to
increase indoor air quality, lower energy consumption and produce a quieter home. Green
upgrades also utilize a grid-connected solar electric system that creates and
captures electricity from the sun. The designer selected environmental
colors and sustainable finishes compatible with the tastes of a luxury homebuyer. The
Emerald features an eclectic mix of furnishings ranging from classic contemporary
to traditional. Sisler Johnston used extensive millwork
and cabinetry throughout the home to reinforce upscale ambiance.
The NAHB Best of 50+ Housing Awards honors the most outstanding
work nationally in the 50+ housing industry. An elite eight-member panel of judges chose
winners in 50 categories from nearly 200 entries of current and on-the-board
