JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Sisler Johnston Interior Design’s partnership with Bartram Trail High School’s Interior Design department resulted in students getting “hands-on” experience refurbishing the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club’s Atlantic House.
“Organization and project management are an important part of a professional interior design career,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “Under the direction of project manager, Darlene Linge, students were exposed to the steps involved in coordinating the installation of 20 luxury hotel rooms and suites in a two-day time frame.”
Sisler Johnston was the original designer of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club’s Atlantic House when it opened in 1998. At that time, she selected two color themes based on the proximity of club’s sandy beaches and seaside location.
These palettes only needed updated fabric applications from their original classic themes. Sisler Johnston redesigned the building’s soft goods, consisting of draperies and bed coverings, and selected new custom carpeting. The project also involved selecting new furnishings. Sisler Johnston chose a signature collection by noted designer Tommy Bahama to lend a relaxed sophistication to each room.
“Ponte Vedra Inn and Club is always responding to market changes in their room designs, incorporating the latest and finest innovations in guest comforts,” Sisler Johnston said.
On the day of installation, Bartram Trail High School students Leslie Lewis and Mindy Smith arrived early to support Linge with the logistics involved in the delivery of 256 furniture pieces distributed into 20 different guest rooms. The students assisted in transporting lamps, artwork and bathroom accessories to each guest room and accounting for every item with check lists to avoid duplication.
Two members of Bartram Trail High School’s teaching staff, Marie Peoples and Jennifer Tippins, visited the site during the installation to observe. The teachers as well as the students learned many valuable organization skills necessary for a successful career in interior design. Two members of Bartram Trail High School’s teaching staff, Marie Peoples and Jennifer Tippins, visited the site during the installation to observe. “Our partnership with Bartram Trail high school includes Darlene serving on the school’s advisory board and our company equipping the students with catalogs, fabrics and other industry samples for their design projects,” Sisler Johnston said. “We believe it is important to expose students to all phases of a professional interior design project and encourage them to pursue higher education goals, including college and licensing.”
