JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Sisler Johnston Interior Design has joined the U.S. Green Building Council, a national nonprofit organization seeking to promote the construction of energy-efficient and environmentally responsible building practices. “We are very proud to be a member of the U.S. Green Building Council,” said Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “Green building and sustainable design is such an important issue today and we are excited to align our company with the objectives of the U.S. Green Building Council.” Established in 1993, the council is a coalition of industry leaders from every sector of the building industry. The U.S. Green Building Council provides professional tools, including workshops, seminars, online courses and the organization’s quarterly magazine, Green Source, designed to educate about trends, technology, advancements, legislative developments and best practices in green design and construction. Sisler Johnston has always been concerned about the environment and for years has been working with builders and developers to incorporate green design principles into builder model homes, community amenity centers, hotel projects and private residences. She says the council’s educational and professional tools will enhance her knowledge and expertise of green building practices. In both residential and commercial projects, Sisler Johnston reviews client floor plans as part of the design process. Whether it’s a private home, office, senior lifestyle community or hotel, she pays close attention to several design elements, including the lighting levels in each room or space. “I truly believe people react in positive ways to natural light and outdoor views,” Sisler Johnston said. The U.S. Green Council’s membership also includes manufacturers and vendors that offer a variety of cost effective, environmentally conscious and energy-efficient products. Several carpet manufacturers, for example, have developed innovative product lines using reclaimed and recycles materials. Some, such as Shaw Industries, offer a trade-in allowance on old carpeting when purchasing new styles and trends. This type of knowledge helps Sisler Johnston select the most appropriate products for her clients that will make their properties distinctive and successful. “I prefer natural products like granite and marble over man-made ceramics and porcelains because they are naturally beautiful,” Sisler Johnston said. “I also love using wool, silk and cotton textiles. These products are no longer regulated to custom lines, but are available at medium income price points because of our global economy.”
Sisler Johnston Interior Design is currently working on an ICI model home at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach that will showcase many green building practices. The home will be featured in the spring Volusia County Parade of Homes competition. “Some of our builder partners are leading the green design movement in their communities,” Sisler Johnston said. “This ICI model home includes e-factor equipment and systems, making the home energy efficient and environmentally sensitive. ”Sisler Johnston Interior Design offers comprehensive interior design services for residential and commercial clients. The company designs private residences, builder model homes, community centers, hotel guest accommodations and office suites. Sisler Johnston Interior Design also provides marketable designs for senior lifestyle communities.
