SISLER JOHNSTON INTERIOR DESIGN TAKES TO THE SKIES
FOR CORPORATE JET DESIGN

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A Northeast Florida interior design firm recently took flight to increase a client’s comfort and style high in the skies. Jacksonville-based Sisler Johnston Interior Design produced true in-flight panache with the interior design of the client’s private Dassault Falcon 50 jet airplane.

Sisler Johnston’s client is a prominent developer who builds homes in multiple locations and travels nationally and internationally for business and pleasure. The jet required a complete interior makeover including electronic upgrades. The client selected a professional company located in Ontario, Canada, specializing in aviation design to provide the interior enhancements and enlisted the services of Judith Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design, to specify the new finishes and fabrics.

“We are a licensed interior design firm and have worked on numerous commercial projects throughout our 23-year history, but this was my first airplane design assignment,” Sisler Johnston said. “Because I have worked for this client for nearly 10 years on dozens of projects, I knew his luxurious taste and wanted to select unique fabrics and finishes for his corporate jet.”

Developed for the luxury transcontinental and transatlantic business jet market, the Dassault Falcon 50 is a long-range, mid-size business jet that offers a number of cabin seating arrangements. Sisler Johnston’s client chose cabin seating for nine passengers, with four club chairs facing forward and a three-place sofa opposite two club chairs. The aircraft also has a forward gallery and an aft lavatory. The jet’s exterior carries the client’s company colors of navy and camel with subtle burgundy striping.

To recommend the most suitable products, Sisler Johnston researched aviation codes pertaining to fabrics and finishes. She then toured the plane with the client, discussing elements that would define its overall ambiance, including cabinetry, counter tops, hardware, carpeting and wall fabrics. Their first choice: rich rosewood cabinets with antique brushed brass hardware and an antique brushed brass lavatory sink.

“To make the galley memorable, I selected a rare Italian onyx stone for the counter, imported by Belmarmi of Neptune Beach,” Sisler Johnston said. “To meet the demands of the project’s accelerated finish schedule, the Italian onyx stone was carefully crated and shipped directly to Canada during the Christmas holiday rush, which was no easy feat. Fortunately, our firm maintains great working relationships with our trade partners, who went above and beyond to meet our tight schedule.”

The jet’s cabin was redesigned to include under-counter lighting to enhance the stone’s translucent quality and the flowing movement of its golden hues. Sisler Johnston selected a latte-colored, dense wool sculptured carpet and soft lambskin leather club chairs. For the sofa, Sisler Johnston introduced a woven tapestry, specially treated to meet fire retardant safety standards and added contrasting throw pillows with luxurious cords and tassel fringe.

Sisler Johnston addressed every design detail in this project. The lap blankets carry the custom fabric pattern and are filled with Siberian down for comfort. A coordinating privacy drape separates the cabin from the flight crew. Sisler Johnston selected wall and ceiling fabrics in golden neutral shades for warmth and appeal. The jet is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology to accommodate computers, television and video viewing. “My client is thoroughly enjoying his jet’s luxurious appointments and the way it reflects his family’s personal taste,” Sisler Johnston said.

The Dassault Falcon 50 is manufactured in France and completed at the company’s facility in Little Rock, Ark. The aircraft is recognizable by its low wingspan and three jet engine turbofans. The Falcon 50 has seven cabin windows and can be designed to accommodate eight to 19 passengers with a two-pilot flight crew.
