JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Finding the perfect window
treatments for the home or office can be a difficult task
because of the vast selection of products available in the
marketplace. Window blinds are an important decorating
component that designers use to effectively transform a room’s
style.
“By
simply adding blinds to a window, home-owners can change a room’s mood,
style or color,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president of Sisler Johnston
Interior Design and ASID Allied Member.
Window blinds
can easily transform the mood of a room by creating a vivid atmosphere or a calm
environment. Earth colors, for example, help to create a comfortable mood. Blinds
also have the ability to warm up a space by providing diffused light or they
can block out light completely for privacy.

There is a wide assortment of colors available in today’s blinds, making
it possible to choose contrasting or complementary colors to enhance the room’s
design. The color choice can help make the windows a focal point. If
the colors of the blinds blend with the walls, it can make the room appear larger
while contrasting color blinds add drama. Warm-tone colors can make the
room feel cozier while cool-toned colors have the opposite effect. White,
cream or beige blinds provide an understated background while
bold color blinds add accent to neutral color walls.
There are plenty of window fashions available to suit every
taste and need. Whether
the look is more traditional or contemporary, casual or formal, choosing the
right style and color window treatment can enhance any space. For example,
horizontal lines or stripes can make windows appear larger. Wide
slats provide a bigger view and a less fussy look.
While blinds are often used to block light, some actually
produce their own glow. Radiant
blinds have a light-emanating function that makes it possible for the user to
brighten or dim a room. “They can also be used in dark, windowless
rooms, such as a basement, to create a bright space,” Sisler Johnston said. “Simply
mount them on the wall wherever a window is desired.”

Along with controlling the amount of light, blinds can help
regulate a room’s
temperature. They help keep the heat inside in cold weather and the heat
out when temperatures rise outside. Blinds can help
reduce energy consumption and help reduce utility bill costs.
There are many different types of window blinds available. Mini blinds,
micro blinds and vertical blinds are common selections and offer privacy, sun
protection and aesthetic appeal. Blinds can also be
surrounded by decorative fabric treatments, which are frequently
more cost effective than the yardage required for a full
set of draperies.
Sisler Johnston recommends consulting with a licensed interior
designer before beginning any home design project, including
do-it-yourself projects. It
can be a valuable investment to have an expert review the
plan and provide recommendations.
