SISLER JOHNSTON INTERIOR DESIGN COMPLETES CORNERSTONE HOMES’ PALM MODEL AT GROVEWOOD

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida – Sisler Johnston Interior Design has completed the installation of The Palm model by Cornerstone Homes in Grovewood at World Golf Village.

This spacious family-friendly design has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a home office. It also has a formal living and dining rooms. At the center of the home is the gathering room, which is adjacent to the open gourmet kitchen and sun-filled breakfast room.

“I especially like the way this home is designed for the maximum privacy and enjoyment of both family members and guests,” said Judith Sisler Johnston, president, Sisler Johnston Interior Design and ASID Allied Member. “Cornerstone Homes is known for building their homes around the family. They pay attention to needs of each member as well as their guests.”

Upon entering the home, visitors are struck by the sensation of the home ’s tall ceiling heights in both formal and family areas. Sisler Johnston selected a colorful palette of mint green, merlot and amber against a background of soft brown rice carpet, paint, and tiles.

The living room sofa has sage brushed chenille upholstery with an antiqued finish. The formal guest chairs are carved and feature a fabric collage of leather and tapestry in the merlot tones. Subtle antique bronze gilding encourages the reflection of light. The cocktail table and lamps selection combines traditional mahogany woods and modern reflective mirrored panels and adds artistic enrichment.

“I designed a picture frame detail for the living room above the sofa to accommodate the addition of a green color block within the frame,” she said. “This provides a dramatic background for framed art and adds color to highlight a room without overpowering it.”
The dining room is designed with architectural flair, including a chair rail with picture frame moulding. Sisler Johnston painted the moulding and drywall below the chair rail in the semi-gloss neutral color (giving it the look of expensive millwork paneling) and added the vibrant mint green color above. Since the dining room walls are lively, Sisler Johnston kept the window dressings silky and neutral with refreshing color accents only appearing in the cords and tassel fringe.

With seating for six, barrel-shaped backs on fully upholstered host chairs give the dining room a contemporary touch. The upholstery is embroidered green to match the coordinating wall color. The British Colonial-inspired guest chairs are mostly wood with the same merlot tapestry from the living room pillows carried in as upholstery on the seats. The serving console is an exotic wood furniture art piece with elaborate, carved detailing and a coordinating oval mirror above. Because of the wall’s expanse, Sisler Johnston enhanced the mirror with wall sconces and greenery.

The kitchen is a gourmet delight with plenty of floor space and staggered mocha glazed maple cabinets. Sisler Johnston added a freestanding preparation island, which has cane accents and a stone top. The breakfast bar is large enough to seat four. Additional seating is available in the sunny breakfast bay, which has a mosaic inlaid table top and horizontal slat back rattan breakfast chairs.

The family room fireplace is cornered adjacent to large windows and doors leading to the covered patio. The sofa/loveseat is covered with modern geometric print pillows in amber, rust, and camel tones. A lounge chair and ottoman also features the same fabric pattern. Nearby, an Asian-inspired diptych of framed art adds interest.

The master retreat has a mahogany king bed with carvings and metallic details repeated in the triple dresser. For contrast, Sisler Johnston selected night tables with mirror inlays over mahogany. The bed coverings are neutral with the only touches of the color palette in the pillow assortment. The bed wall is painted mint green for depth and to showcase the signature bed.

A bay of windows frames the seating area with ample room for two barrel-shaped lounge chairs and ottoman. The chairs are covered in amber brushed velvet fabric with silk bouillon trim at the base. The window valances are notched in the corners and have beaded trim, creating an architectural enhancement for the room.

A wainscot of golf-themed wall coverings adds sporty appeal to the home office. The home office is situated away from the family activity center to provide the golf enthusiast undivided time to improve his game via the Internet from his laptop computer on the table desk. He can catch up on the latest golfing magazines while seated comfortably in his lounge chair.
“I combined some brown wood desk tones with black painted wood on the bookcase and lounge chair for a fashionable flair,” Sisler Johnston said.

For continuity, Sisler Johnston carries color and style throughout the home. For example, a niche wall located near the home office has been painted mint green to contrast with the architectural metal wall art mounted above.
