JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 4, 2011) – Judith Sisler Johnston, allied member, ASID, and president of Sisler Johnston Interior Design, recently became one of a select group of professionals nationwide to earn the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation.
The CAPS designation establishes Sisler Johnston as one of the building industry’s leading professionals with experience and knowledge specific to home and commercial modifications for aging-in-place. CAPS provides the skills and knowledge to help retirees and older adults age-in-place independently and comfortably in their homes
“There is a tremendous need to understand the aging-in-place demographic and to design living environments that allow older adults to remain in the comfort of their own home as they age,” Sisler Johnston said. “I am proud to receive the CAPS accreditation and honored to play a role in helping seniors transition comfortably in their homes.”
The CAPS curriculum incorporates a variety of information tailored to aging-in-place home modifications, including background on the aging-in-place demographic, communication techniques, common aging-in-place remodeling projects, common barriers and solutions, codes and standards, product ideas and resources, marketing and business management.
CAPS program graduates are required to maintain their designation by attending continuing education programs and participating in community service projects. CAPS classes are offered through local and state home building associations and at national trade shows. More information about the CAPS program is available online at www.nahb.org.
